The Italian media are each day finding new ways to say Sergej Milinkovic-Savic is close to Manchester United, but his move is being blocked by Paul Pogba’s situation.

Il Tempo today start their story off by saying: ‘Yes, we can. Three words, strictly in English. Milinkovic has often heard them these days. Tare spoke first, then Serbian agent Mateja Kezman. The meeting with Manchester United has had the desired effects. They all agree, the happy ending looks around the corner.’

That makes it sound like a transfer is imminent, right? Yet Pogba’s situation is quickly pulled back into the equation.

Claudio Lotito and his counterparts at Manchester United aren’t quite in full agreement on price for the Lazio midfielder, although it’s not thought that represents a serious problem.

It’s the Pogba issue which is a complete block, because as far as the Italian media have it, Milinkovic-Savic will not be moving to Old Trafford unless the Frenchman leaves.

Zinedine Zidane has, according to the claims, asked Florentino Perez to make another push to sign his compatriot, but, in all honesty, that isn’t really backed up in the most recent claims from the Spanish media.

It’s largely gone quiet, with Saturday’s Marca having no big splash on an impending new offer.

So despite all the optimism around SMS being given positive signals his move could soon be done, that really doesn’t seem the case.
