This week, we’ve seen Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola claiming that Palmeiras was interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira.

Since Flamengo are still to confirm the midfielder’s purchase from the Red Devils, it was claimed that, according to people close to the player, the Verdão made an approach to learn his situation.

The story was soon denied by Goal Brasil reporter Thiago Fernandes, who said he got in touch with agent Giuliano Bertolucci and the representative dismissed the claims.

Now on Jovem Pan, journalist Thiago Asmar came up with his own information. He claims he spoke to people close to Pereira, including staff and agents, and learned that this approach from Palmeiras happened over a month ago, with no recent contacts going on.

Asmar makes it clear he didn’t speak to Pereira, but pointing out that he knows the player, having already interviewed him in Manchester, the journalist thinks ‘he wouldn’t do that’ move.

The 26-year-old’s most remarkable moment for Flamengo was in the Copa Libertadores final last year, when he lost possession in a play which gave Palmeiras the title. So joining them now would only make his situation more awkward.

Moreover, with recent claims saying Erik ten Hag counts on Pereira for the next season in case Flamengo give up on the deal, all those on Jovem Pan’s panel agreed that in case it’s true, then the midfielder should choose to rejoin Manchester United, regardless of any Brazilian clubs willing to buy him.
