On Tuesday morning, Brazilian journalist Jorge Nicola reported Palmeiras are interested in signing Manchester United midfielder Andreas Pereira.
Claiming that Flamengo will not buy the player at the end of his loan spell, he added that the Verdão got in touch with the player’s entourage to speak of the possibility of landing him.
Following the noise it made in the local Brazilian media, there’s now a journalist dismissing those claims.
Thiago Fernandes, from Goal Brasil, claims there ‘hasn’t been any contact’ from Palmeiras from the signing. He got in touch with agent Giuliano Bertolucci, who denied having received any calls from Palmeiras.
His report adds that Andreas Pereira is still to take a decision regarding his future, and could return to Manchester United in the summer.
Flamengo have an agreement to sign Pereira from Manchester United in a €10m deal, but have been having second thoughts about it, especially because the midfielder is a mere bench player these days.
One of the biggest reasons why the 26-year-old isn’t well seen at his club is the mistake he made in the Copa Libertadores final last year, which gave Palmeiras the title. That’s why it’d be quite ironic to see him joining the São Paulo side this summer.
