Earlier today we covered Record’s latest slant on the future of Nuno Mendes. They reported it’s unlikely a club will spend €70m on the Sporting player this summer, so the Lisbon side will wait until January.
Manchester United, Manchester City and Real Madrid were all named as interested, and the same three clubs are mentioned in a fresh report from O Jogo.
They report the trio will have their scouting departments watch the 18-year-old during Euro 2020, as they consider whether to take the plunge this summer.
Manchester United and Manchester City are asking themselves ‘Is it worth investing more than €50m’ on the player.
City are thought to be best placed to sign Mendes, partly because they could use Pedro Porro in a deal, so they could pay €50-55m and add the Spaniard.
Over at Old Trafford, there’s interest but Mendes isn’t a priority given the club have Luke Shaw and Alex Telles, with investment elsewhere more important.
Real Madrid aren’t actively searching for a left-back either, and there’s doubts over the Spanish club’s finances.
Given all of that, there’s a good chance Nuno Mendes won’t be moving in the current window, and Sporting would then expect interest to become more serious ahead of future markets.
Should the youngster have an excellent Euro 2020, everything could change.
