Borussia Dortmund have an injury list much longer they’d like going into their Champions League match against Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday evening.
The German club fly to London at lunchtime on Tuesday, and it’ll be interesting to see which players are missing, with several on the line of making the match or not, and several completely out of the equation.
Getting on the plane doesn’t mean a player will be fit for Tottenham, and regional newspaper Ruhr Nachrichten, who have great connections to BVB, have compiled an injury list.
Marco Reus (rehabilitation after cruciate ligament surgery)
Raphael Guerreiro (rehabilitation after foot break)
Erik Durm (hip problems)
Sebastian Rode (pelvic injury)
Andre Schürrle (muscle tear) middle of September
Marcel Schmelzer (ligament tear in the ankle) end of October
Marc Bartra (groin problems)
Dortmund have hoped to have Bartra back for the match against Tottenham at Wembley, but even if he’s on the pitch it’s clear the Spaniard will have been rushed to return.
Playing at the premier English stadium is a big deal in the German media, and whilst Mauricio Pochettino’s men will face a Dortmund side hit hard by injuries, they’ll also be facing one with extra motivation.
