Earlier this week, reports from the Spanish media claimed that Villarreal are interested in Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Gonaçalo Guedes.
Even though the player is currently having a season-long loan spell at Benfica, it’s been said the Spanish side would try to get him signed him in January.
It turns out that as the Portuguese media now covers this rumour, newspapers Correio da Manhã and Record claim the Wolves attacker should be going nowhere.
Correio da Manhã writes that Guedes ‘will continue’ at Benfica, as he’s a ‘bet’ from manager Roger Schmidt.
Record, meanwhile, says Villarreal’s task is ‘very complicated’, regardless of the kind of deal they’re going to try.
It’s said neither Benfica nor Wolves are willing to break his current loan spell, especially because Roger Schmidt appreciates him, and the player himself would like to stay as well.
Guedes only has 160 minutes played in seven appearances for the Eagles this season, and maybe that was a reason for Villarreal to think that move was possible.
However, it seems there’s still big faith on him in Lisbon, and a move away isn’t on the cards.
