The Portuguese media today cover Wolverhampton Wanderers interest in Sporting winger Marcus Edwards.

That’s done by newspaper Record, who feature a big story about the Lions effort to renew his contract with the club.

Sporting are not really worried about giving the player a pay rise or extending the expiry date, which is currently set for June 2026. What they really want is to change his release clause.

Edwards is currently protected by a €60m clause, and ahead of the transfer window, the Lions would feel more comfortable if making it €80m. That’s why they already opened talks with his agent.

It turns out that when speaking of clubs who could come for the 24-year-old in the summer, Wolves get a mention.

The Molineux side is said to be one of the ‘many’ Premier League clubs who are interested in Edwards. It’s said the pressure from the market is ‘intensifying’ at the end of this season.

Edwards is having a good season with Sporting, with 12 goals and 12 assists so far, and has been linked to English clubs for a while.

Record claims the Lions ‘admit’ selling the star in the summer window, but only if their big requests are met. So Wolves better be prepared to spend big.
