It looks like Wolverhampton Wanderers had a team of scouts working hard in Portugal on Thursday night.

That’s because according to newspapers Record and O Jogo, the Premier League side scouted two Europa League matches in the country.

While officials were in Lisbon watching Benfica’s clash against Shakhtar Donetsk at Estádio da Luz, other emissaries were at the Estádio do Dragão to see Porto playing Bayer Leverkusen.

Benfica had a 3-3 draw with Shakhtar, and couldn’t qualify for the Europa League’s round-of-16. Porto got an even worse result as they lost to Bayer 3-1 at home.

Wolves have scouted a few Porto games this season, but haven’t been linked to any of their players lately.  Something similar happens with Benfica. Although the Premier League side watched them a few times, the only player they were linked to was Gedson Fernandes, who ended up moving to Tottenham.

So we can only guess that Wolves were checking out what the games had to offer, besides watching potential opponents for the next round of the Europa League. However, none of them will be meet in the round-of-16, since the English side will face Olympiacos.
