Wolverhampton Wanderers are asking €60m from Barcelona for Rúben Neves as they plan to use those funds to sign Sporting duo of João Palhinha and Matheus Nunes.
That’s according to Sport, who explain the Premier League side are ‘about to close’ the deal for Palhinha for €20m plus €5m as potential bonus payments.
His arrival could see Wolves let go of their own midfielder. They are also interested in bringing Nunes, valued at around €40m, to the Premier League side. Therefore, Bruno Lage’s side are asking for €60m from the La Liga side to let go of Neves.
Another report from Sport insists Neves is the ‘absolute priority’ for the Catalan club. His agent, Jorge Mendes, had a meeting with the Blaugrana leaders earlier this week.
Xavi Hernández’s side informed the super-agent that they are going to make a move for his client, even though they have a deal in place for Franck Kessié to join them as a free agent.
Barca are keen to sign the Wolves man and have let Mendes know they ‘will do everything possible’ to reach an agreement with the English club in the coming weeks. They want him to compete with Sergio Busquets in midfield next season.
With the Spanish club’s technical leaders giving their approval to sign Neves, Barcelona must now find a favourable agreement with Wolves to conclude the operation.
It’s stated Mendes has made it clear the operation won’t take place swiftly, but he will look for formulas that will please all parties involved. Wolves, through the agent, have agreed to find a replacement for Neves.
Mendes helped Wolves obtain a discount for Palhinha and it’s hoped the club will repay the favour in the Neves deal.
