Real Madrid have made it clear they will sell Raphael Varane this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal at the club, and Manchester United are keen on him.
That’s according to ABC, who say Madrid are planning a sale as contract negotiations continue to hit the buffers.
Varane is out of contract at the Bernabeu next summer, and so far, there has been no progress on a deal to extend his ten-year stay.
ABC say the latest offer from Madrid is a four-year deal worth €7m a year, an increase from his current €5.5m a year pay packet.
They are ‘making it clear’ that the economy is not there at the club for them to ignore a hugely saleable asset like Varane, and if he does not renew, which looks likely, ‘they will put him up for sale’ after the European Championships.
Their aim is to secure a €60-70m deal, and they are already ‘thinking about’ how they can sort out the transfer.
They do not care about Varane’s plans in this nature and are particularly keen to avoid any attempts by the player to stay at the club and leave on a free next year.
They are ‘calm’ about a departure and are aware there is a market out there for the Frenchman, who is wanted by Manchester United, Chelsea and PSG.
They’ve already been linked by various sources over the last few months, while Manchester United have been admirers for years, but there’s no indication whether they would be willing to pay what Madrid want.
It all depends on Varane either way. If he rejects the contract and continues to be silent, Madrid will force a sale one way or another.
