With Sweden not qualified for the World Cup, Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof will have plenty of time off in the coming weeks.

The 28-year-old is currently with the national team squad for the friendly matches against Mexico and Algeria, but will soon be free to enjoy some free time until the Red Devils’ squad is back in England.

It turns out that instead of staying at home to watch the World Cup, Lindelof actually has some nice plans ahead. The Manchester United player is going to Africa with his wife for some charity work, and spoke to Fotbollskanalen about that.

“I’m off for ten to twelve days and then I’m going to Gambia with Unicef. I’m going there on Sunday and will be there for a few days,” Lindelof told Fotbollskanalen.

“My wife and I are going on a field trip with Unicef. We are ambassadors and will go down and see how they work. We have been trying to make it happen for quite some time. We started working together just before Covid and then the pandemic came and then we couldn’t travel. Now that we missed the WC, I got the chance to get some time off and then we take the opportunity to do it.

“It will be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to it and it will be interesting to see how people work there and what they can do to help.

“You always want to help. I am in a position where I can do good things and raise different topics. Same for my wife. When we have the time, we want to do it. For me it is also important, since I have not been on a field trip, to go down and see where the money goes and how people work there to help.”

After failing to qualify for the World Cup through the group stage, Sweden beat the Czech Republic in the playoffs, but ended up losing their place with a defeat to Poland.

Victor Lindelof, meanwhile, hasn’t been a regular for Manchester United this season, with only 11 appearances so far, mostly getting starts in the Europa League. With the competition from Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire, the Swedish player has a big fight to find a place in the team.
