It’s fair to say that Oriol Romeu’s move to Girona from Southampton this summer was one that nobody saw coming, but it seems it’s working out more than well.
That’s at least what can be garnered from Mundo Deportivo today, who cover the player and lavish the praise on him.
They liken the midfielder to a ‘wild boar on the loose’, in reference to a folk tale about a boar that was capable of scaring of lions.
They explain that Romeu has been in fine form since arriving from Southampton in the summer, with his latest display seeing him shine against Real Madrid while up against Luka Modric and Toni Kroos.
He was voted MVP in the clash at the Bernabeu, where he was able to ‘nullify’ Kroos and Modric and allowed his team to shine.
That’s something he’s been doing since his arrival, correcting his team’s positioning depending on the team’s needs and bringing ‘composure, balance, strength and security’.
This has allowed the attacking players to shine, knowing that ‘every patch of grass’ behind them is covered by Romeu.
He wanted a change of scenery after several years at Southampton and has secured that in ‘the best possible’ way at Girona, where it has become ‘unimaginable’ that he is not in the first team, mere months after his arrival.
