West Ham and Southampton are both keen on signing Nicolai Muller from Hamburg, report SportBild.
The Premier League clubs are joined by Wolfsburg and Schalke in their interest, but Hamburg don’t want to sell and have made that clear publicly. They’d rather hang on to the 29 year old winger for a further season.
The problem for Hamburg, and boost for West Ham and Southampton, is that Muller only has one year left on his contract. So, despite a general wish to keep the player, Hamburg will be forced to sell for a reasonable offer.
SportBild say they’ve found out the ‘pain threshold’ for Hamburg, the price they’ll sell Muller at, is €8-10m, pocket money for Premier Legaue clubs.
The 29 year old played 25 Bundesliga games last season and contributed 5 goals and six assists, reasonable figures but not hugely stand out.
This could be a play to put pressure on Hamburg to offer a good renewal, or genuine West Ham and Southampton interest. At such a doable fee, a deal is reachable for either club.
