Desperately trying to sign a new striker before the end of the transfer window, West Ham United started firing a few bids all over Europe.
The Hammers never did manage to bring anyone in, but it’s clear they tried their best, and not just with Darwin Nuñez.
According to Corriere Bergamo, West Ham made two attempts to sign Duvan Zapata ‘on the gong’.
The first was deemed ‘unacceptable’ by Atalanta, which was for a ‘dry loan’ with €2m up front, while the second was a ‘proposal for €32m’, described as ‘too little and unthinkable to accept after the market closed, after the gong of 8pm on Monday’.
However, much like was stated on Tuesday in an article about Newcastle’s interest, ‘next summer could be the summer for the sale in case substantial proposals arrive’
With Atalanta vying for a Champions League spot next summer, it’s clear they ‘need the Colombian’s goals’, which West Ham would have really wanted as well.
Now, they just have to hope nothing happens to Michail Antonio between now and the end of the season.
