Manchester United defender Lenny Yoro has insisted they are fully backing Andre Onana after his horror show in the 2-2 draw with Lyon.

Foot Mercato have comments from the centre-back today made in the mixed zone after Manchester United’s draw with the French side on Thursday evening.

It proved to be an evening of highs and lows for Ruben Amorim’s side, who had fallen behind in the game when Onana misjudged Thiago Almada’s free kick in the 25th minute and saw it bounce into his net.

Yoro equalised in added on time in the first half before Joshua Zirkzee appeared to have given Manchester United the win in the 88th minute.

Instead, it was to be disappointment as Onana committed his second error of the evening, parrying a ball straight to Rayan Cherki in the 95th minute to ensure the game finished 2-2.

It was a horror evening for the goalkeeper, who had found himself the focus of attention before the game after a tit-for-tat with Nemanja Matic thanks to comments he made ahead of the tie that didn’t go down well with the Lyon midfielder.

It led to a frosty atmosphere for him, to say the least, but Yoro insists he won’t be facing this particular battle alone.

“Of course, of course, it’s part of football, you know, to tease each other like that,” he said regarding the goalkeeper’s ‘reception’.

“Now, André, we’re with him, of course, we support him. And we’re going to do everything we can to win a potential match.”

The focus for Manchester United is now on the return leg at Old Trafford next week, in which they will be expected to progress.

The club are very much resting their hopes on winning the Europa League this season to get back into the Champions League and, crucially, help their beleaguered finances.

Amorim’s side have been good at home in Europe this season and saw off Real Sociedad 4-1 in the last round to emphasise that point, and Yoro is hoping for more of the same this time around.

“We’re not going to say favourites, you know, in football you never know what might happen,” he added.

“Of course, we’re Manchester United, so we have to be 100% confident.  And I think that in Old Trafford, we’re going to have, voilà, the, the support, the, the, the, I get confused with French and English, yeah. We’re going to have the public with us and we’re going to try to do our best.”
