According to a report in the Spanish media, Watford sent a scout to Spain this weekend to watch the game between Burgos and Sporting Gijon B.
La Vozde Asturias have confirmed Watford were on the scouting list to watch the Spanish second tier game, which finished in a 1-1 draw. Watford’s owners the Pozzo family are well accustomed to Spanish football after owning Granada up until last year, and the Premier League club have recruited from the country in past windows.
There have been no reports who Watford were watching on Sunday, but Leeds United linked forward Isma Cerro scored Sporting Gijon’s leveller late into the game.
Last month we covered reports from Spain that Leeds United sent a scout to watch Sporting Gjon, and it was suggested the Championship side were watching Cerro.
Leeds United have upped their scouting in Spain since Victor Orta was installed as the clubs sporting director in May, and he immediately brought in former Sevilla scout Dani Salas.
The Elland Road club have also recruited from Spain in the last window when they signed Samuel Saiz from SD Huesca, and they’ve formed close ties with Cultural Leonesa in recent months.
