As reported by the Portuguese press today, Watford were one of the clubs who had scouts watching Porto’s 5-0 defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League round-of-16.
Although the Hornets probably had some interest in watching the home side, all they could see was the Dragons being destroyed by the Reds, without many chances of a reaction.
The local newspapers don’t say who Watford had an eye on, and there isn’t any player who has recently been linked to the Premier League club.
But there was still an interesting story from the last summer, when Diário de Notícias claimed the Hornets made an offer for Hector Herrera.
Herrera captained Porto last night, even though he wasn’t able to have a great performance under such conditions.
The player has been linked to a departure from Porto for quite a while now, even though no clubs seem to have the intention to pay what the Dragons demand.
But if Watford were really watching him and have intentions of attempting to sign him, they better hurry. Because according to A Bola, AC Milan had scouts at the game especially to watch the Mexican midfielder.
However, maybe both clubs will need to watch Porto again to give the player another chance, because last night certainly couldn’t leave them a good impression.
