Despite the many rumours about an exit from Tottenham Hotspur this summer, Serge Aurier is now expected to stay at the club.

The news comes from Foot Mercato journalist Sebastian Denis, who says that despite some ‘last-minute contacts’, the fullback should stay in London.

Aurier’s contract with Tottenham expires next year, and in an interview with the French media back in May, he made it clear he has no intention to sign an extension.

That only fed the rumours about an exit, even though he was never heavily linked to clubs from abroad.

By that time, it was even reported by the French press that Aurier had chosen a new agent and therefore would look for a new club this window. Now it looks like his plans never worked out or none of the clubs that approached him tickled his fancy.

So with his contract expiring at the end of the season, Tottenham will probably spend the year trying to convince him to sign an extension, or he’ll soon be able to leave for free.
