Marouane Fellaini may have played his last match for Manchester United.
The Belgium midfielder’s contract runs out in June and there’s no sign of a renewal being imminent. Jose Mourinho has made it repeatedly clear he’d like to keep the player, but the club haven’t been able to come up with terms to please him.
Fellaini turns 31 years of age in November and the length of contract being offered is likely to have been an issue.
On Sunday, Belgium’s DH ran a story saying the player is now close to an AC Milan move. The transfer was described as ‘likely’ and Milan are said to have offered a three year contract.
The story hasn’t really gained much speed in Italy, where despite a few outlets covering the Belgian claims there’s not been a lot to back it up. That could be because it’s the final day of the Serie A season so other matters are more pressing, but Milan News believe otherwise.
On Sunday evening they report an exclusive, saying Milan sources have denied the claims. Getting to the point, Milan News say ‘the negotiation does not exist’.
Maybe Milan are trying to talk things down so they can complete a deal in secret, alternatively this would be yet another Fellaini claim with nothing in it.
A further update from Italy comes with the Di Marzio website reporting Massimiliano Mirabelli, Milan’s sporting director, as saying about Fellaini: “We know he’s not renewing with Manchester United.”
