Jerry Mbakogu has played his last match for Carpi, report Gazzetta di Modena.

Defeat to Bari this weekend has seen Carpi finish 11th in Serie B and when there had once been dreams of a battle for promotion, there’s now a disappointment around the Italian club.

Mbakogu spending months out with a knee injury, something he’s only recently recovered from, is seen as huge impact upon Carpi’s season. The club’s local media think a lot of the striker, and his loss has been repeatedly reported as a huge blow.

It’s believed Mbakogu has now played his last game for the club, with Leeds United the player’s likely destination. Numerous Italian reports have claimed an agreement between Carpi and the Yorkshire club and there’s been quotes backing that up for some months.

In February, Carpi’s general manager Matteo Scali was quoted as saying“There’s a gentleman agreement with Leeds for June.”

Last weekend Gazzetta dello Sport reported Leeds United officials had been at Carpi’s match against Cittadella and that they’d be taking Mbakogu to England once the season finished.

Gazzetta di Modena explain Mbakogu has been ‘one of the symbols’ of Carpi and they say there’s a feeling of ‘what could have been’ had he been fit for the entire season.
