West Ham United star Mohamed Kudus may have been bulking up in the gym, with his recent appearance considered strange to those who watched him in the Netherlands.

That’s at least according to journalist Mike Verweij, via Soccer News, who has questioned Kudus’ current look after watching West Ham’s loss to Liverpool.

Verweij recently made a trip to England to watch West Ham’s trip to take on Premier League leaders Liverpool at Anfield.

It proved to be a trip worth taking as Virgil van Dijk’s last-minute header sealed all three points for Liverpool and kept them on course for the title.

The result was a disappointing one for West Ham, who had more than stood up to Arne Slot’s side throughout the game and were unfortunate to not secure at least a point thanks to their performance.

Kudus was undoubtedly their top performer as he terrorised Liverpool’s defence throughout the game, looking back to his old best, which has been sorely missed by the Hammers this season.

Verweij was certainly impressed, but admits he thinks there’s something strange going on behind the scenes with the forward.

“Manchester City – Crystal Palace (5-2) was really a top match, and Liverpool – West Ham (2-1) was also fantastic a day later. With a negative and positive leading role for Virgil van Dijk,” he said.

“He’s unrecognisable. He has been in the gym, that is not normal,” he said about Kudus.

“I thought Kudus was great in the stadium, but he got a lot of criticism at Viaplay. Simon Cziommer said that he is not good enough for the Premier League.

“Kudus does not have such good statistics this season either, but I thought he made a really good impression. When you see him play football at West Ham every now and then, you do think he has had a good education.”
