Following the news of the Super League being created overnight by 12 very wealthy clubs, Chelsea, who are one of them, are going to need a strong squad if they want to compete week in, week out with Europe’s elite.

One of the areas they were already looking at before all of this was the striker position, with just Timo Werner seen as a surefire starter under Thomas Tuchel these days.

Both Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham have found themselves pushed to the peripheries of the squad, suggesting this could be their last season at Stamford Bridge.

One man linked rather firmly with Chelsea of late has been Andrea Belotti, currently at Torino.

The Italian forward is out of contract in 2022, and with a renewal offer yet to be accepted, there is a feeling this will be the last chance for the Serie A club to get some decent money for their star.

Milan and Roma are also said to be after him, and yet Corriere dello Sport believe Chelsea are also on the case.

Following Roma’s 3-1 loss at the hands (or feet) of Torino, the newspaper explain, somewhat sarcastically, that one positive is that they were able to take a closer look at Belotti.

However, to land him, the Rome based club ‘will need to beat the competition of Milan’, while ‘the suitors in Europe aren’t lacking, with Tuchel’s Chelsea searching for a striker’.

It’s said Urbano Cairo, the club’s president, values Belotti at around €40m, but for a player in the last year of his contract, that seems a bit steep, meaning the situation is in the Blues’ favour.

We’ll have to wait and see, but despite all the big news surrounding football as a whole, the transfer rumour mill continues its course, as teams will always need players.
