Manchester United allowed Romelu Lukaku to join Inter Milan in the final days of the last summer transfer window in England.
Before the Belgium international completed a switch to the San Siro, the Red Devils wanted to bring in a new forward to strengthen their attacking division.
Juventus’ Paulo Dybala was identified as a target and at one point, there was a suggestion of a swap deal involving the Argentine and Lukaku.
However, the South American didn’t leave the Turin club and the former Everton man got his wish of joining Antonio Conte’s side over the Serie A winners.
Federico Pastorello, Lukaku’s agent, has given an interview to Tuttosport.
During the course of the interview, the representative was asked if Dybala was ‘one step away’ from joining United as part of a swap deal that could have seen Lukaku join Juventus.
Responding to that, Pastorello said: “It’s true. Romelu, however, had always hoped to go to Inter because he was impressed by the affection of the Inter fans.”
Juventus may be happy the deal never materialised because Dybala has been one of the standout performers for them this season, scoring 13 goals and managing 12 assists in all competitions.
