As we get as tired of writing about Simone Zaza as West Ham fans get about reading about him, one thought keeps worming its way to the surface – What makes interested clubs think he’ll do any good for them?
Zaza, 25, had a decent goalscoring record for Sassuolo, then couldn’t get in the Juventus team, with the Turin club very eager to sell over the summer. He’s not managed to find the back of the net for West Ham, and yet crisis hit Valencia feel he can be their saviour.
Marca say Valencia have ‘tricky options’ for January transfers, with Zaza being one of them, but they say he falls into a category of players ‘who can offer immediate performance’.
Why?
Sure, Valencia have an Italian manager in Cesare Prandelli, but surely that’s not going to be the magic ingredient to turn Zaza into a goal machine.
Perhaps we’re being unfair, perhaps Zaza’s form is all a West Ham issue, perhaps it’s down to West Ham that Zaza has only one international goal from 16 appearances, that coming in 2014, who knows.
But if Valencia are looking at Zaza to be their saviour, it may be an example of how Peter Lim and co got into their crisis in the first place.
