A long-term target of Pep Guardiola’s at Manchester City, Alessandro Bastoni is no stranger to being linked to the Premier League.

He’s also been sent to Manchester United by some, before Tottenham, now managed by Antonio Conte, were also thrown in the mix.

The player refused to move in the summer, and even if he had wanted to transfer elsewhere, it’s unlikely that Inter would have let him leave.

That’s how important he is to the Serie A side, but just because there was no chance of a deal being struck this summer doesn’t mean the interested clubs, like Manchester United and Manchester City, are going to go away anytime soon.

We say this because Gazzetta dello Sport have a big article on Thursday about some of the players in Italy who could be the next protagonists on the transfer market, recalling that Bastoni is used to it by now.

They say this is a ‘phenomenon that has already occurred’ for the Inter star, where a ‘derby between Manchester United and Manchester must be recorded’.

That suggests both Erik ten Hag and Pep Guardiola are interested in signing the defender, although when they would go about that remains to be seen.

Manchester United’s John Murtough recently admitted the Red Devils might not be spending as much in the near future, while Manchester City just bought a new centre-back in Manuel Akanji.

Something to keep in mind.
