Following the initial claims from the English media regarding Tottenham Hotspur’s attempt to sign Pedro Porro and Marcus Edwards from Sporting, many Portuguese outlets today feature stories covering the news, and newspaper Record is the one who actually brings some updates on that situation.
Their report confirms that Spurs ‘already contacted’ the Lions showing their interest in signing the duo in the January transfer window.
The problem in all this is that the Lisbon side are not very interested in doing any business.
Sporting demand both release clauses to be triggered, which amounts to €45m for Porro and €30m for Edwards, since Tottenham have a 50% discount on the striker’s €60m price tag.
According to Record, those requests made Spurs’ interest ‘fade’ a little, even though they haven’t given up yet.
It’s said there’s a long way until the end of the transfer window, and the board shall analyse whether they will invest all that money on Antonio Conte’s requests.
The newspaper also points out that when announcing on Wednesday that the tickets for the match against Marítimo are sold out, Sporting used a picture of Porro and Edwards, perhaps as a provocation to Tottenham’s attempt to get the duo signed.
