This week Christian Eriksen spoke to Ekstra Bladet and made it very clear he’s considering leaving Tottenham Hotspur.

With one year left on his contract with Spurs, and failed attempts to renew it from the club, it wasn’t a great surprise that the player is thinking about taking a new step in his career.

Eriksen also flirted with the idea of joining Real Madrid, something which was of course picked up in the Spanish media.

On Thursday we covered claims from Spain that the Tottenham player will have been doing what Madrid ask of their major targets… making it clear they want the transfer.

Friday’s edition of Ekstra Bladet could provide more context for all that has happened this week.

The Danish newspaper states Martin Schoots, Eriksen’s agent, believed the ‘time is right’ to send the message out that a transfer is a possible development.

They state the interview this week, with them, wasn’t a spur of the moment thing, but ‘a carefully thought out statement from the Dane and his agent’, adding: ‘Martin Schoots believed that the time was right to tell clubs such as Real Madrid that he was ready for a switch.’
