It’s been a crazy few weeks for Fernando Llorente.

Ever since the Spaniard helped Tottenham qualify for the Champions League semi-finals, a game he subsequently helped turn around, the Spaniard’s future has been an even hotter topic of discussion around Europe.

The 34-year-old was most recently linked with a move to Napoli, which his brother and agent refused to entirely dismiss, and the player himself admitted he had no idea what the next few months had in store for him.

One of the potential landing spots for him has been a return to Athletic Bilbao, who have always maintained their door was open for the veteran, until now.

According to Fichajes.com in Spain, the Basque side’s board ‘appear to have discarded Fernando Llorente’s return’ following his ‘important role’ in Tottenham’s Champions League adventure, seemingly aware of how difficult it would be to convince him to swap London for a team unlikely to play in Europe next year.

The target man has already expressed his happiness with his life in London, clearly hinting he wouldn’t mind staying an extra season under Mauricio Pochettino.

Regardless, there’s a Champions League final for everyone at the club to prepare first, so we’ll probably end up knowing more after June 1st.
