Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil has been on loan at Sevilla since the winter market and the impending arrival of José Luis Mendilibar at the Spanish club would benefit him.

That’s according to Estadio Deportivo, who state the 62-year-old is set to be the new manager of the La Liga side after they sacked Jorge Sampaoli earlier today.

The Tottenham owned player knows Mendilibar well from his loan spell at SD Eibar during the 2020/21 season.

The coach used the 22-year-old on both wings at Eibar, where he managed four goals and four assists from 29 matches. Gil’s form during his loan stay with them convinced Spurs to sign him from Sevilla in the summer of 2021.

ED have a report on Mendilibar’s plans for the Spain international and two other players who have played under him in the past. Prior to Gil’s move to Tottenham, Mendilibar had predicted him to do well in the Premier League, which hasn’t happened so far.

“He is brave, smart, he does not get overwhelmed by hard tackles. Sometimes we think that skilled players are not well regarded in England. With the youth that Bryan Gil has, he is capable of everything. If he has the chance to go, he will be going to do better,” he said about Gil in 2021.

ED relay these quotes and then state Gil, without a doubt, is ‘going to have an enormous importance’ under Mendilibar at Sevilla. In other words, the managerial change at the La Liga side should favour the Tottenham man.
