Tottenham crashed out of the Champions League after their defeat 2-1 defeat to AS Monaco last night. Despite Hugo Lloris’ inspired performance, the Premier League side failed to impress at Stade Louis II, and are lucky that the scoreline remained 2-1.

Moussa Sissoko, who made a €35m move from Newcastle last summer, came on in the 74th minute, but hardly had the time to make an impact.

Sissoko has been speaking to the French media (via L’Equipe), and pointed out Heung-Min Son’s missed opportunity early in the game made the difference.

He said: “It’s obviously a big disappointment. We came across a good team from Monaco… We could have done better. There was this opportunity for Heung-Min Son. If we had led 1-0, we could have managed better, and controlled the game better. Now, it is necessary to digest the defeat fast as on Saturday arrives a big match against Chelsea.”

Following their defeat to AS Monaco, Mauricio Pochettino’s team have 4 points from 5 matches, with a game left against CSKA Moscow. There’s no way of qualifying for the next round and the whole experience has been something of a disappointment for Spurs.
