Tottenham were one of several sides who had a scout in attendance to watch Fiorentina’s clash with Spezia on Monday.
That’s according to Il Secolo XIX, relayed by Fiorentina.it, who don’t say whom Spurs were there to watch in the 2-1 win for La Viola.
The newspaper explains that there were ‘plenty of scouts’ in attendance for the clash with Spezia, which Fiorentina won 2-1 courtesy of goals from Krzysztof Piatek and Sofyan Amrabat.
Alongside the coach of the Polish national team, there was also Chicco Evani, the ‘closest collaborator’ of Italy coach Roberto Mancini, watching the game.
Il Secolo makes it clear that they are ‘interested in unspecified Fiorentina players’, but it’s a safe bet that Tottenham were there for Amrabat.
They were heavily linked with him throughout the January transfer window before signing Rodrigo Bentancur, and it was recently explained that a deal was very close to being completed.
Obviously, it never happened, but the interest was certainly there, and it would make sense if they were still keeping an eye on him.
If he was the player, they were there to watch; they’ll have certainly been impressed by his performance and the 89th-minute winner that came from it.
Amrabat is a name to keep an eye on then, with it very likely he’ll be getting linked with a move to Tottenham again in the summer.
