Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have missed out on the signing of Victor Orakpo, according to reports from France.

Foot Mercato journalist Sebastian Denis today writes that the player is set to sign a professional deal with Nice after a ‘successful trial’.

It’s said that since being revealed in an international tournament held by Bayern Munich in 2022, the player had been in the sights of many European sides, including Newcastle and Tottenham.

It’s Nice who moved decisively, though, as they soon brought the youngster for a trial period, and as soon as he impressed when training with the squad, they decided to hold him with a long contract.

The Nigerian striker is now just set for his medicals and should soon have his deal signed with the French side.

He isn’t expected to stay at the club’s academy for long, as the first team squad will be waiting for him soon.

Now only time will tell whether Newcastle and Tottenham should have made stronger moves to get him signed, while AC Milan and Bayern Munich had also been said to be interested in him.
