Having sorted out their backup striker problem with the signing of Vincent Janssen, the next area Tottenham might want to strengthen is at centre-back.

With only three natural players in that department (as Eric Dier seems to be a defensive midfielder these days), an injury to either Toby Alderweireld or Jan Vertonghen would lead to Kevin Wimmer stepping in with no backup beyond that.

Of course, giving youth a chance can sometimes pay off, but with the departure of Federico Fazio to Roma, perhaps another defender might be needed.

At least, that’s what Il Messaggero are suggesting on Monday, as the Italian newspaper look at Lazio’s transfer market so far, and analyse their pursuit of Angolan defender Bastos.

The 24-year-old, whose full name is Bartolomeu Jacinto Quissanga, was apparently a target for Mauricio Pochettino towards the start of the transfer window, which caused Lazio to step back a bit.

Things, however, have changed since then, and the Premier League club seem to have given up their chase of the Rostov defender.

If this is true, it’s a clear indicator Pochettino’s transfer window isn’t done yet, and a defensive arrival (as well as that of Georges-Kevin Nkoudou at some stage) could be the icing on the cake for his Premier League squad.
