Like Paul Pogba, Giovani Lo Celso is a name that has been in every single transfer rumour ticker since the window opened, and even before then.

The Argentine’s superb performances on loan at Real Betis last season earned rave reviews and plenty of admirers in Europe.

The biggest of those are Tottenham Hotspur. Spurs have been pushing for the midfielder’s signature all summer long, with it well established that Mauricio Pochettino has made him a priority signing.

So far, though, no deal has been reached. While Spurs want Lo Celso and he wants the step up that a move to White Hart Lane offers, there’s no deal in place.

That’s because Betis want at least €75m for their star player and as yet, Tottenham haven’t matched that valuation.

By all accounts, every party was confident a deal would happen at some point, however, and the lack of suitors aside from Tottenham suggested they would get their man.

That appears to have changed with Bild’s Christian Falk reporting that Bayern Munich are ‘discussing’ a transfer for the 23-year-old.

He offers nothing more than that but given his relationship with the club, it means that this is definitely one that’s underway and that’s very bad news for Tottenham.

If Lo Celso wants to make a step up then Bayern represent a bigger one that what Spurs can offer. They have the status, a guaranteed title challenge and Champions League football as well.

That’s no slight on Spurs, Bayern are simply a bigger club than they are and it would take a lot of persuading from Pochettino and co to make Lo Celso turn down Bayern in favour of them.

Perhaps, though, this sudden interest from Bayern will convince Daniel Levy to stump up the cash and get a deal over the line before the Bundesliga champions can move in.
