It doesn’t take long to fall from grace in football, and Tottenham’s Bryan Gil is experiencing that at Valencia.
The youngster had been in superb form for the Spanish side since arriving from Spurs on loan in the January transfer window, establishing himself as a first-team star with a series of impressive performances under Jose Bordalas.
He quickly became a firm favourite at the Mestalla, with some even going as far as to liken him to Maradona at one point.
Everyone involved seems determined for him to remain at the club beyond the summer when his current loan deal from Tottenham expiring at the end of the season.
They say that Gil ‘loses weight’ under Bordalas, and that leaves ‘his future up in the air’ in terms of a transfer.
It’s explained that Bordalas has changed his system in the last few games, and that has been ‘detrimental’ to the Tottenham loanee, who has found himself on the bench.
That’s been a ‘surprising’ turnaround given his status in the last few months and the fact he’s gone ‘from strength to strength’ despite only managing one assist in total.
His disappearance from the first team leaves doubts about whether the Spanish side want to keep him beyond the summer, something which had seen a certainty until recently.
Either way, Las Provincias say that ‘it is time’ for Valencia and Tottenham to sit down and work things out, particularly after the latter apparently made it clear they’ll sanction another move.
