Emi Buendia has certainly had an eventful January.
The Cultural Leonesa midfielder was caught up in an almighty scandal which has probably taught him the perils of social media.
Buendia, 21 years of age, recorded teammate Yelko Pino saying things including: “I sh*t on the Cultural wh*re.”
Then he uploaded it to social media and it hit the fan. Pino was kicked out of the club, Buendia suspended, and it looked like the footballer’s time at Cultural was up.
Last week there were claims he was being edged towards Leeds United, who have shown interest from the Autumn onwards. Then it was reported Buendia was no longer comfortable at Cultural and had contacted parent club Getafe to ask if they’d find him a new destination.
It was stated Buendia could be sent to ‘a team of the Championship’, with Leeds United of course being the likeliest, and probably only, option.
Leo Noticias report the Leeds United target not only silenced the whistles at the weekend, when he played against Sevilla B, but even managed to get an ovation from the crowd when he came off.
Buendia was whistled a little at first but that all soon turned to cheers as he put in a great performance which helped Cultural win 2-1.
Of course, good performances make the youngster more attractive for Leeds United, but this is probably one best left for the summer, unless Buendia decides on another social media mess in the next 24 hours.
