Last Wednesday, Mundo Deportivo reported Barcelona are in contact with Manchester City over a deal for João Cancelo. It was also stated his agent, Jorge Mendes, is working on formalising an agreement that suits both clubs.

The 29-year-old has been on loan at the La Liga side since last summer and they want to retain both him and João Félix beyond this season.

Barca have publicly confirmed this on a few occasions and a ‘confidential’ report from today’s Sport provides the latest.

Deco is working on helping Barcelona retain the Manchester City owned player and the forward. Their agent, Mendes, is working on finding solutions but the report says the final outcome could be different for the duo.

The Catalan club are optimistic of retaining Félix, also because Atlético Madrid are aware they won’t be able to receive rich offers in the summer. That isn’t the case with regards to the Manchester City owned player.

That’s because the assessments made by Barca and Manchester City ‘differ greatly’.

Sport say Pep Guardiola’s side value Cancelo at €40m, while Barcelona don’t want to pay more than €20m to buy him.

It’s said that ‘things are going to drag on’ and could become more complex for Barca if another club were to enter the race. The right-back ‘will decide’ and he seems to be happy at the Camp Nou.

For now, the Manchester City man is ‘more expensive than expected’.
