Wout Weghorst has nine goals and three assists so far this season.
At the weekend he put in a really good performance for Wolfsburg as they drew 3-3 with Freiburg, scoring a goal and contributing an assist.
That’s encouraging some chatter in the Netherlands about the Dutchman, and there’s likely to be calls for him to get another go with the national squad.
Playing in some friendlies last year, Weghorst was then out of the squad when it came to the UEFA Nations League, something the Oranje have got to the finals of. Those will be held this summer in Portugal, and the striker will be doing all he can to get Ronald Koeman’s attention.
Voetbal International’s Süleyman Özturk has been speaking about the player, in comments picked up by Dutch website Soccernews, and he’s made it clear Liverpool is the desired destination… if only he gets to choose.
Özturk explained: “If he is in charge himself, he will end up at Liverpool, that’s his dream club, and if he grows another three to four years, why not?”
The problem for Weghorst is that he’s 26 years of age, and at the end of the 3-4 year time spectrum he’s be 30, maybe too old to be considered by those in charge of transfers at Anfield.
