Manchester United fought back against Chelsea on Saturday to secure a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge. It wasn’t the result Erik ten Hag’s side will have been looking for, and an injury to Raphael Varane overshadowed the match.

With the World Cup just around the corner, the defender went down injured and quickly looked to be in tears. Those left watching were left to assume the Frenchman’s participation in Qatar was then under serious doubt.

Monday’s edition of L’Equipe has some brighter news.

The French newspaper say Varane underwent tests on Sunday and those tests revealed he’s suffered a ‘femoral biceps lesion’.

Femoral biceps are part of the group of muscles which make up the hamstrings.

As it stands, he’s not officially out of the World Cup, which given the worry at the time is described as being ‘great ‘news’ for the Manchester United player and his country.

Varane’s situation is thought to be ‘borderline’, like a number of others who would be expected to make the France squad.
