CJ Egan Riley’s move from Burnley to PSV Eindhoven at the end of the January transfer window was brought about by technical director Earnest Stewart’s efforts to get a deal done.

That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, relayed by Soccer News, who report that Stewart ‘managed to convince’ the player into the move.

Egan Riley joined PSV on loan until the end of the season at the end of the January transfer window after struggling to establish himself at Burnley this season.

The move was something of a surprise one, particularly as the player will be joining PSV’s Jong team rather than the first team, but Eindhovens Dagblad insist that was always the plan.

They explain that Stewart had been in contact with the defender for some time and ‘managed to convince him’ to move to PSV at the end of the window.

He sold him the idea that he can start slowly with the youth team and enjoy the opportunity to grow into the first team in the near future.

That plan was stalled somewhat because Egan Riley was not immediately handed a work permit, meaning the Burnley man could not join in with the squad up to this point.

However, that work permit has now been approved and he was allowed to train with the players on Thursday morning.

The hope is that he can feature in Friday night’s clash with FC Emmen, although PSV won’t take any risks with the player, and he may be held back until Monday’s clash with MVV.

Either way, the Burnley man is now available and that’s good news for everyone, with the question now over whether PSV will end up activating the purchase clause in his current loan deal.
