Hamburg midfielder Albin Ekdal has told the Swedish media Pontus Jansson was acting cowardly for criticising former Sweden coach Erik Hamren. The Leeds United star questioned the tactics of Hamren following their disappointing Euro 2106 campaign last summer.

Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Ekdal was asked about the actions of Jansson and also Jimmy Durmaz after Sweden’s exit from the competition at the group stages.

The 27-year-old said his international teammates were a little cowardly for what happened because their criticism towards Hamren came after Sweden’s elimination. Ekdal believes Jansson and Durmaz should have spoken to Harmen about their concerns at an earlier stage.

“I think that’s a bit cowardly in a way. You could say it face to face when it’s relevant, I think,” said Ekdal.

Jansson was part of Harmen’s squad for Euro 2016, but the Leeds United defender didn’t get any playing time during the tournament.

Despite his comments Jansson has remained a regular in the Sweden squad under new coach Janne Andersson, and the Leeds United player has now started to make inroads to become a starter in the team.
