Inter Milan and the Italian media spend all January trying to find Andrea Ranocchia a new club, potentially get what they want with Swansea City, and then the whole thing is taken off the boil.

For weeks in Italy any potential Ranocchia opportunity was jumped upon. When Tottenham’s Jan Vertonghen was injured, it was reported he could go there. With Vigil van Dijk’s injury, Southampton became a possibility for Ranocchia.

Then, on Wednesday, Swansea City were pushed to the front of the queue and a deal looked possible. Now, Gazzetta dello Sport say Swansea are interested, but Ranocchia could decide to stay at Inter.

The Milan club are keen to sell but every time they try, things fall to pieces. Ranocchia is on €2.5m a year (we assume that’s after tax, not sure how he would cope otherwise) and that’s apparently proving a problem.

Maybe taking the Ranocchia exit claims from full-on-boil to gentle-simmer is an effort from Inter and/or Ranocchia to get more money out of Swansea City.
