Last month, West Ham United signed Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips on a loan deal until the end of this season.

West Ham United technical director Tim Steidten is pleased to have secured the 28-year-old’s services.

Sky Deutschland interviewed Steidten and he backed the Manchester City owned player to shine for the Hammers. Journalist Florian Plettenberg took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to relay the director’s comments.

“We were looking for someone who is also a leader. We have known him for a long time. The conversations were very good. I believe it will work out well,” he said.

Since joining the London club, the 28-year-old has made two appearances for David Moyes’ side.

On his West Ham debut against AFC Bournemouth, Phillips played alongside Edson Álvarez

Steidten has also heaped praise on the Mexico international’s impact in his debut season, after the 26-year-old swapped Ajax for West Ham last summer.

Steidten further explained: “I have also known him for a very long time. He is a super important player for us. He is a leader. An absolute leadership figure. He’s top.”

The Mexican has managed a goal and two assists from 27 appearances this season. West Ham’s management will be hoping Phillips can have a similar positive impact during his time with the club.
