Tuesday’s edition of Spanish newspaper Sport reported that Oscar Garcia is a candidate to take over from Tony Pulis at West Brom.

With the Premier League club wanting another way forward and a more entertaining future, the Garcia shout didn’t sound like a bad one and certainly more inspiring than many of the names linked with West Brom this week.

Earlier this year the same newspaper had reported an Aston Villa approach for Garcia, at around the time Steve Bruce was struggling, but that always seemed a little optimistic from the Championship club.

Garcia had been doing well at Saint Etienne, who he joined in the summer, and moving to England’s second tier wasn’t so attractive. The Spaniard has now left ASSE after a humiliating 5-0 defeat to local rivals Lyon, but that match seems more of an excuse than the reason, with Garcia generally doing a good job.

In their Wednesday edition, Sport say Garcia left because ASSE couldn’t satisfy his plans, and he remained strong in his vision regardless of whether it may put other clubs off in the future.

Do West Brom want a headstrong manager who’ll want to change everything and plot a new optimistic future? Probably not, not midway through the season, the more obvious option may be more palatable for those in charge at the club.
