Real Sociedad are keen on a move for Arsenal’s Nacho Monreal this summer, according to Noticias de Gipuzkoa.
La Real have been improving across the park so far this summer and now the left-back spot is the last one they need to address.
They already have plenty of cover in the position but Kevin Rodrigues wants to leave and so the club’s management want to bring in an experienced player to replace him.
Their aim is to not only reinforce the position but also provide an older head to help with Aihen Muñoz’s development. That’s what has led them to Nacho Monreal.
The Spanish full-back is a favourite of Roberto Olabe, Sociedad’s Sporting Director, and as a result, is their preferred signing. They haven’t, however, made any firm steps to getting a deal done.
It may be a tricky operation for them as well. The newspaper says they have to convince Monreal to leave Arsenal in the first place and then convince the Gunners to let him go. He has a year left on his deal at the Emirates but they have an option to extend it.
Should Monreal decide to leave and Arsenal allow it, then the newspaper says ‘his destination would be none other than La Real’. This, though, is likely to be one that will be resolved later in the window.
