Southampton remain interested in FC Groningen right-back Deyovaisio Zeefuik, with the Dutch club having already lined up a replacement.
The Saints were first linked with a move for the right-back with a report in April indicating that they were in ‘advanced contacts’ about a potential move to Saint Mary’s.
Speculation about a move to Southampton was added to two months later when FC Groningen technical director Mark-Jan Fledderus admitted there was a ‘good chance’ the player would be leaving this summer.
There has been no update on a potential move since then, but Voetbal International provide information today.
They report that Groningen are working on several potential departures this summer, with Zeefuik among those who are ‘popular’ outside of the club.
Hertha BSC are one of those exploring a move, alongside Southampton, who don’t seem to have ended their previous interest as of yet.
There’s no mention of whether either side have made a move as yet, or what kind of fee they would be looking at.
However, it should be remembered that Zeefuik is now in the final year of his deal with the Dutch club so Southampton could likely negotiate a relatively low price in that regard.
Groningen are certainly expecting an exit and have already lined up a replacement, having already made contact with Linus Wahlqvist, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Dynamo Dresden.
