Premier League side Southampton have reportedly signed the Swiss wonderkid Alexandre Jankewitz.
As reported by Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web, the Saints have won the race for the 16-year-old, and should pay €1.5m for his transfer from Servette.
The website claims that there was a big battle for the teenager, with Manchester United, Tottenham and Juventus all involved. It’s said that the negotiations have been handled by MGA & Associates.
The midfielder has appearances for Switzerland’s U-16 and U-17 teams, having played the Euro U-17 earlier this year. On club level, he was a regular starter for Servette in the U-18 Swiss league last season.
Even though Tutto Mercato Web takes the race as a big deal, involving the name of big clubs like Man United, Tottenham and Juventus, the race for Jankewitz, won by Mark Hughes’ team, hadn’t been reported on much during the summer. For being a 16-year-old, maybe this was a silent battle.
