Bayer Leverkusen have identified Southampton’s Nathan Tella as a ‘surprise’ candidate to bolster their attack, according to Kicker.
Xabi Alonso currently has Victor Boniface, Amine Adli, Florian Wirtz and Jonas Hofmann as the four key players in his attack.
The manager wants to have more options this season and this has seen the Bundesliga side look at the Southampton player.
It’s claimed the 24-year-old’s name has ‘appeared out of nowhere’ at Bayer Leverkusen even though his statistics weren’t that impressive until the end of the 2021/22 season.
He starred during his loan spell at Burnley last season, scoring 19 goals and registering five assists. Tella has returned to Southampton and has managed an assist from two games this season.
Even though he lacks experience in a top division, the report states it won’t be a cheap deal for Bayer Leverkusen. His contract lasts until 2025 and Kicker state Russell Martin’s side would ask between €15m and €20m to sanction the player’s sale.
Since Alonso’s side need to bolster their attack, the report adds they would have to pay a fee in this region to sign Tella.
It needs to be seen if they can get this deal over the line quickly.
