Liverpool midfielder Alexis Mac Allister has revealed that his Reds teammates have started to joke that Jurgen Klopp is like his dad, such is the strength of his relationship with his new boss.

The Argentine midfielder has been speaking to La Nacion in his homeland regarding life at Anfield after his move there in the summer.

He joined Liverpool in a big money move from Brighton and Hove Albion, with the Reds moving quickly to secure his signature as they rebuilt their midfield.

He’s proved to be an instant hit at the club, becoming a key player from day one and starring in all of their games so far, with even a red card not ruining matters.

Like many players, he has been warmly welcomed by manager Jurgen Klopp, who works hard to build personal relationships with all of his squad to help build that family feel which has provided the foundation for Liverpool’s success under the German manager.

The Reds boss is often seen hugging and celebrating with his players and that has certainly been the case with Mac Allister since his arrival.

It seems things may have gone a little bit further with Mac Allister, though, at least as far as his Liverpool teammates are concerned.

“The relationship is obviously 10 points, I just arrived and when you just arrive everything is easier and everything goes perfect,” he said.

“But many of my teammates tease me because they say that he is my dad now. The relationship with him is perfect, he is a very charismatic person, who always tries to be close to the players.

“He has crazy moments that you might see in a game, and you can’t stop laughing. For me it is a pleasure to be able to work with him.”

That teasing from his Liverpool teammates has only increased over the past week, with them feeling they have more ammunition for their claims now.

“Well, now they caught me, because the last game we returned from the national team I was the only South American who played. Then they told me that he”s my dad, that he can’t take me out, that I had played all the games… and that’s how they drove me crazy.

“But beyond the joke, the relationship is spectacular, he is a person that I respect, that I respect very much, and I hope that he continues like this and that I can continue learning from him on the field.”
