While it was clear that Hector Bellerin didn’t have a future at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, the player is happy to see his former club doing well.
Allowed to leave the Gunners on a free this summer, the defender returned to Barcelona instead of signing for Real Betis, whom many thought he would prioritise.
It was thought Xavi would use Bellerin quite a bit, but injuries have stopped that from happening to date, with the 27-year-old totalling just four appearances in all competitions to date.
He was part of the Barcelona team that lost 3-0 to Bayern Munich in the Champions League, and ended up on the bench for subsequent the 1-0 win over Valencia.
Bellerin was the man next to Xavi in the press conference on Monday ahead of their clash against Viktoria Plzen, where he was asked about patience in football, which is when he brought up Arsenal and how they handled the whole Arteta situation.
He said, relayed by Mundo Deportivo: “In football, in general, there is less and less patience. There is clear evidence of how important the process is. In England, it has happened with Guardiola, Klopp and Arteta. Projects that have faces and eyes have to be prepared, and the process is long. Confidence and continuing to improve is important. Rome wasn’t built in a day.”
Therefore, it seems the Spaniard wants his current club to emulate the Gunners, and give Xavi the time he needs to get everything set up in Catalonia.
Prior to signing once again for Barcelona, Bellerin spent 11 years contracted to Arsenal, for whom he made 239 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals and assisting another 29 along the way.
